all beaches are made of granite

i can't find my copy of this poem a friend wrote…
it's titled "All Beaches Are Made of Granite"
it reveals the elusiveness of the concept of strength...
how, in the end, even mammoth granite cliffs
eventually erode into tiny grains of sparkling sand,
lovingly embracing some crystal blue lake

my counselor tonight said I should be strong
and stick to what I said I would do for love
my question is… when granite gives in and becomes
that soft, warm, caressing beach hugging the lake…
isn't that gentleness really just another kind of strength?

Perhaps the best kind of strength is flexible and changes while keeping its eye to the ultimate goal. Seems to be the way of the world.

I think strength requires a modicum of gentleness and a feeling of rightness in one's self. If what you would do for love has changed, it will take strength to allow yourself to change, too...

I'm with mb. Concrete and cast iron are certainly strong under pressure but they are brittle if the pressure is not from the direction they expect. True strength needs flexibility.

mb, pauline and lee,
for now, all i can say is thank you, thank you. this current phase of my life seems to have me a bit overwhelmed... so much has happened, is happening, i can't keep up and i feel so unsatisfied being unable to write or read blogs more. thanksgiving will be a much needed break, and you know who i am most thankful for... YOU! big, big hugs and many blessings on you and your loved ones,
snowsparkle

I agree, true strength needs flexibility, but gentleness is such a wonderful quality.
